The brief.

Ahead of World Bicycle Day, we set out to document Liz Mwema's lifelong love story with cycling, one that began at age 9, on a red BMX her father gave her. What started as a childhood gift became a lasting relationship with movement and freedom, and this project set out to capture that journey: from where her love for cycling began to what it still means to her today.

Keeping it real.

Years after that first ride on her red BMX, Liz still experiences the same joy every time she gets on a bike. We followed her through the scenic Dongo Kundu Road, documenting both the motion and the stillness, the focus before a ride, the energy during it, and the quiet moments in between. The result isn't just a record of a ride; it's a portrait of a joy that's stayed with her since childhood.
